FACE TO FACE: DR Congo Negotiates with Rwanda Under the Luanda Process

The worrying situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has promoted the government to engage their counterparts to try and negotiate for peace to return to the region.

DR Congo’s Foreign Affairs Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner and her Rwandan counterpart Olivier Nduhungirehe this afternoon met before Angolan President João Lourenço in Luanda, the AU appointed mediator.

DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi is hoping the talks yield positive results as the M23 rebels reportedly backed by Rwanda continue to seize strategic territories in North Kivu Province.

Tshisekedi who is currently out of the country receiving medical attention in Europe, has come under heated pressure from the M23’s in the east.
