The DR Congo national team kicked off their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification preparations with defeat as they lost 1-0 to South Africa in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Fresh from a 2-0 victory over Sudan on Saturday to confirm their place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Ivory Coast, Sebastien Desabre’s Leopards took South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in an international friendly to kick-off their preps for the World Cup qualifiers due to start in November.
Desabre made a host of changes to his starting eleven on Tuesday from that which started against the Nile Crocodiles of Sudan in Kinshasa as the Frenchman looked to test the depth of his squad.
The hosts, Bafana Bafana, took the lead at the Orlando Stadium in the 25th minute of the match with the goal proving crucial and ultimately won the encounter for Hugo Broos’ side.
The Leopards will now return to their respective bases until November when they open their World Cup qualification campaign with encounters against Mauritania and Sudan on the 13th and 20th of that month respectively.
