WHY TSHISEKEDI FEARS KATUMBI: Jeune Afrique Boss Says DRC President Working To Disadvantage Strongest Opposition

Respected Jeune Afrique media executive director François Soudan has given an analysis highlighting areas of operations that shows President Félix Tshisekedi’s fear for a Moise Katumbi candidature in the December 20, 2023 presidential election.

Soudan says Tshisekedi is working hard to eliminate Katumbi from the race because he is his strongest competitor.

He says Katumbi, president of the opposition Ensemble pour la République, has built good structures across the country that puts him ahead of other candidates like Martin Fayulu and Dr. Denis Mukwege.

Soudan says Tshisekedi has sponsored a litany of candidates for provincial and national deputy office drawn from nearly 900 political parties created in the last year.

He says although the act of creating political parties in an election year to participate in the same election is unconstitutional, Tshisekedi has ignored that fact with 90% of the nearly 24 candidates all his surrogates.

Soudan says Tshisekedi is determined to win the election by hook or crook while maintaining parliamentary majority.

The respected journalist says Tshisekedi has targeted Katumbi in a bid to weaken his candidature.

Soudan says Tshisekedi and his administration has made political office lucrative compared to teaching, policing and other professionals.

He explains that police officers and teachers are getting $80 per month while policians serving as deputies are walking away with over $26,000.

Soudan says the Congolese population is aware that Tshisekedi has run down the administration of the country.

He says political office is now seen as a huge source of financial survival while the rest of the country wallows in abject poverty.

Soudan was speaking when he featured on Radio France International (RFI).
