BATTLE LINES HAVE BEEN DRAWN: Kamerhe Refuses to Acknowledge Tshisekedi in Rise to National Assembly Presidency

Tensions are rising within the ruling Union Sacreé alliance as leaders of the different political platforms in the pact compete for popularity.

Newly-elected President of the National Assembly Vital Kamerhe, leader of the Union National Congress (UNC) party, has refused to acknowledge President Félix Tshisekedi as a key contributor to his recent rise to become head of the house.

Kamerhe and his UNC party, that has continued to gain popularity, have rather opted to salute his allies from the Joseph Kabila regime as the main contributors to his political rise.

This comes after Tshisekedi and his Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) party opted to endorse incumbent Christophé Mboso ahead of Kamerhe in the run up to the National Assembly elections.

Kamerhe has also accused Tshisekedi of having planned an assassination against him at his residence last month in the disguise of a coup d’etat attempt which was only thwarted by the armed forces.

The former Deputy Prime Minister of Economy has recently chaired a conference where several speakers demonstrated a lack of confidence in the incompetent leadership of Tshisekedi.
