Canadian media publication, Globe and Mail, says Rwanda plans to deploy nearly 4,000 soldiers with modern weapons to join the M23 rebel force in the North Kivu Province.
In a publication which the said to have been drawn from the UN report, Globe and Mail has revealed that these 4,000 soldiers will be equipped with modern weapons and they could now be even more larger and stronger than the M23 rebel militia that they are thought to have been supporting.
The Canadian media publication further indicates that the Rwandan force will be deployed with the mission of taking control of the strategic city of Goma and several surrounding cities and towns.
The Globe and Mail media outlet, however, pointed out that this recent UN report on the security crisis in eastern DR Congo has not yet been made public, but has rather been submitted before the Security Council in this month of June, 2024.
