TSHISEKEDI ENFORCED EXILE: Opposition Leader Claudel Lubaya Forced into Exile

Another opposition leader in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been forced to leave the country for his safety having been targeted for incarceration by state agencies.

Claudel Lubaya, a strong critique Félix Tshisekedi’s dictatorship and incompetence, declared having been forced into political exile.

In an exclusive interview with Jeune Afrique, Lubaya stated that his departure into exile a year ago was not a choice but a necessity in the face of the deteriorated political situation and lack of respect for human rights in the DR Congo.

Lubaya was last year cited to be among “political contacts” of politico-military movement Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) led by Corneille Nangaa.

However, Lubaya denied these accusations by the Tshisekedi government who aim to use security state agencies to neutralize the opposition.

“It is not because I do not share the views of the power in place that I will be tempted to take shortcuts,” Lubaya, president of the political party Union Démocratique Africaine Originelle (UDA-O), wrote on X.

A number of the political class in the DR Congo government have continued to accuse the Tshisekedi regime of transforming the country into an open-air prison, where opponents live under constant threat of arrest.
