Burundi has becomes the first country in the East African Community (EAC) to reject and ban Congolese from entering its territory with travel documents issued by AFC/M23 authorities.
The AFC/M23 politico-military currently the controls the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo cities of Goma and Bukavu which are critical contributors to Burundi’s economy.
A statement issued by the Burundian authorities reveals that several Congolese have been been refused entry into Burundi for having exit stamps from the DGM AFC/M23 rebel-coalition.

However, it must be noted that this small country, Burundi, survives largely thanks to the massive influx of Congolese on its territory, which gradually contributes to revitalize its economy.
Denying the Congolese population access to Burundi would further weaken an already precarious economy.
