KABILA MAKES SENATE WAIT: Joseph Kabila’s Fails to Show Up For Session Before Senate

Former Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) president Joseph Kabila could not appear before the Senate yesterday for a session over his immunity case.

The government has requested the Senate to lift Kabila’s immunity, accusing the former republican president of rebelling against the nation with alleged involvement with the AFC-M23 rebellion.

On Tuesday, 20th May 2025, a special committee appointed by the Senate had summoned Kabila, a Senator for life, to appear before the house to provide his defence from the government’s allegations.

However, Kabila did not pitch up and answer to his defence questions before the Senate which had to wait long to receive the former president.

Kabila has been in forced exile and not appeared in Congolese territory for the past two years although reports emerged last month that he had visited the city of Goma in eastern DR Congo.
