Democratic Republic of Congo’s independence hero Patrice Lumumba’s family have expressed their disappointment at the Congolese government for neglecting the national hero’s mausoleum.
On Tuesday, thieves attempted to steal Lumumba’s gold-crowned tooth which is the only part of Lumumba’s body that exists and buried at the mausoleum.
Roland Lumumba who is the national hero’s eldest son, expressed great dissatisfaction by government’s failure to secure the mausoleum which is of national significance.
“I am extremely outraged. Every Congolese can only be outraged that such a sacred place, for which we all fought collectively, the Lumumba family, the Lumumbists and people who love humanity, so that our national hero would return to us, is vandalized. That such an act is committed and that the place is not protected, we are outraged,” Roland Lumumba told TopCongo FM in an interview.
With a heavy heart, he believes that “the primary responsibility lies with the Congolese executive. And we await the next steps because this act cannot go unpunished.”
