FORMING DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS: AFC/M23 Sign Peace Agreements with SADC Heads of Defence Forces

The Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) & M23 rebel-coalition have continued to gain diplomatic stability following a high level meeting with heads of defence forces of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region in Goma.

The meeting which took place last week saw the SADC Heads of Defence Forces and AFC/M23 rebel leaders reach several key agreements to foster peace in eastern DR Congo.

Military Coordinator the General Sultani Makenga represented and signed the agreements on behalf of the AFC/M23 rebels to facilitate the withdrawal of SAMIDRC troops and equipment from their captivity.

The two parties also agreed to assess and share costs for the rehabilitation of the Goma International Airport as it returns to full operation.
