Democratic Republic of Congo President Fèlix Tshisekedi was greeted by a shocking welcome during his visit of Kananga, his own people, in Kasai-Central Province as youths in the city reminded him of his unfulfilled pledges to ensure works at the Katende Dam electricity project commence.
The youths who paraded the streets of Kananga with placards expressing their displeasure over President Tshisekedi’s unfulfilled commitment to ensuring the 64 megawatt Katende electricity project is worked on.
During his last visit of Kananga in January last year, President Tshisekedi promised to have the electricity project commissioned.
“I will do everything possible to ensure that work at Katende continues and completed as quickly as possible,” President Tshisekedi said in January 2022.
However, the project remains uncompleted over a year after the Head of State’s declaration to see to it that it was completed.
Works at the Katende Dam electricity project, situated in Dibaya territory 75 kilometers from Kananga, have stalled since 2021 after the Kamuina Nshapu militiamen conflict.
