Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba has been cited in a financial scandal involving the embezzlement of over US$58 million of public funds at the Ministry of Justice.
The Attorney General Firmin Mvonde has requested the opening of judicial proceedings before the Court of Cassation against Mutamba who has been cited as the alleged main mastermind.
This is latest embezzlement scandal involving a high ranking government official under the Félix Tshisekedi regime and comes days after former Prime Minister Matata Ponyo Mapon was convicted for embezzling over US$250 million.
The National Assembly has since decided to constitute a commission charged with hearing Mutamba who has since been summoned.
Mutamba and other co-accused officials at the Ministry of Justice are alleged to have embezzled over US$58 million meant for the prison decongestion project which has not commenced despite funds having been made available.
