EDGING CLOSER: M23 Rebels Advance Closer to Goma as Projectiles Fall in the City

The M23 rebels have continued getting closer to possessing the strategic and capital city of Goma in North Kivu Province projectiles fell and exploded in some parts of the city on Sunday night.

Locals and the civil society have raised alarm to the authorities for me vigilance as tension and fear has gripped the population for the possible eruption renewed violence in the main city.

The shells have caused damage in four different locations in the city including one which hit an electrical box a museum in Himibi, while another struck a sign near the People’s Beach, on the shores of Lake Kivu.

A government offices at Rond-Point Abattoir Kituku and the Mugunga district office were also hit by the shells was which left serious damage, witnesses have said.

Local residents have since been advised to report any suspicious movement in the neighborhoods: “In any case, everyone should watch their neighbors and in any suspicious case alert all the security services,” the civil society in Goma have said.

The inhabitants of Goma remain perplexed after the fall and explosion of these shells as M23 continue to cause havoc for the incapable Congo army (FARDC).
