DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: DR Congo’s Former Minister of Hydrocarbons Arrested For Battering Wife to Death

Former Deputy Minister of Hydrocarbons Moussa Mondo has been arrested for battering his wife to death following a marital dispute.

Mondo’s wife Khadidija Alisa, a Malagasy national, was pronounced dead at the hospital where she was rushed to on Sunday 15th April after succumbing to several body injuries inflicted by her husband, Moussa Mondo.

Moussa Mondo, who served as Minister of Hydrocarbons between 2019 and 2021, has since been temporarily expelled from the PPRD Party of former President Joseph Kabila.

Due to the seriousness of his offences, the hierarchy of Mondo’s political party took this decision, in accordance with the legal texts of the party, advocating republican and democratic values, respect for the rights of men and women, as well as honorability and human dignity.

“The PPRD notes that the opening of the judicial investigation to elucidate the circumstances of this death was launched by the arrest of the aforementioned comrade by the Congolese national police… The PPRD decided by its decision on precautionary measures of the “temporary three-month exclusion of comrade Moussa Mondo pending the outcome of the judicial investigations in this matter”, we read in the press release from PPRD party, signed by his permanent secretary, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary.
