DR Congo national team rallied to an important 1-0 away win over Togo this Friday afternoon to remain in contention of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to co-hosted by USA, Mexico & Canada next year.
The Leopards scored the important and only goal through experienced striker Cedric Bakambu just seven minutes into the encounter played at the Stade de Kegué in the Togolese capital, Lome.
Bakambu slotted home from inside the area in the 7th minute after being teed up by attacking partner Fiston Mayele Kalala who capitalized from an error in the Togolese defence.
Sebastien Desabre’s held on to collect crucial maximum points thanks to the defensive line led by captain Chancel Mbemba, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Arthur Masuaku and Rocky Bushiri with Samuel Moutousamy providing cover in central midfield.
Meanwhile, former TP Mazembe superstar Jackson Muleka also made return to international football after a lengthy period as he was a second half substitute.
The Leopards remain in second place Group B after with 19 points with Senegal still leading the group with 21 points after their 5-0 thrashing of South Sudan in Juba this afternoon.
Desabre’s will head back home to prepare for their final group encounter against Sudan in Kinshasa in four days time.
