HELL ON EARTH: Prisoner Opens Up on Deplorable and Inhumane Living Conditions at Makala

Detained opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique National Deputy Mike Mukebayi Nkoso has moved to shame Félix Tshisekedi’s Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba for his dubious attempt to defend the government over the poor state and conditions it currently keeps prisoners under at Makala Central Prison.

Last week pictures and videos went viral on social media showing the poor and unhealthy living conditions that prisoners have to bare while serving their sentences at the overcrowded Makala facility.

Mukebayi who has been incarcerated at Makala on trumped up charges has spoken directly from the filth and dirt of the hunger-stricken Makala Central Prison.

Mukebayi writes through his lawyer;

“As an eyewitness currently in detention at Makala Central Prison, I have decided to put an end to the controversy over the conditions of detention of prisoners here. The images published correspond to the daily reality of Makala. They are authentic.

Only one meager meal of poor quality is offered per day between 5 and 6 p.m. Less than 100 grams per prisoner where the food requirement of a normal man is 400 grams, non-existent and replaced by tanks operated with rationing Latrines out of service with the consequence of natural needs carried out in the open air in full view of everyone with bodies evacuated before our eyes all day long. traumatic for other prisoners.

Visitors sometimes witness these macabre daily evacuations.”
