CONSEQUENCES OF TSHISEKEDI’S USELESS DECISION: M23 Seize More Territories in the East After MONUSCO Departure

The decision by imposter president Félix Tshisekedi to drive the UN Peacekeeping Mission (MONUSCO) force out of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is producing adverse effects as the territory has been exposed to severe insecurity.

On Saturday, 29th June 2024, the M23 rebel fighters took over the strategic territory of Kanyabayonga and two other localities following the departure of MONUSCO forces in the areas.

The M23 rebels latest seizure of Kanyabayonga is regarded as a huge step in their bid to take control of the main city of Goma, the provincial capital city of North Kivu.

The city of Kanyabayonga, a town with around 65,000 inhabitants, is located between the main cities of Goma and Butembo.

Latest reports indicate that the M23 rebels have continued their progression after seizing Kanyabayonga as they edge closer to Goma.

The DRC’s eastern region has been exposed to serious security situation caused by Tshisekedi’s useless decision for the withdrawal of the MONUSCO forces that have protected the territories and civilians for the past two decades.
