BOREHOLE & STREET LIGHTING FRAUD: Former Finance Minister Allowed to Leave DR Congo to Receive Medical Attention Abroad

Former Democratic Republic of Congo’s Court of Cassation have granted Deputy Prime Minister of Finance Nicolas Kazadi’s request to leave the country in order to receive specialist health treatment.

Kazadi and three other co-accused are currently under investigation for allegedly embezzling public funds in a borehole drilling and street lighting project which were over-billed.

The former Finance Minister was last month barred from leaving the DR Congo and had his bank accounts freezed by the authorities as investigations continue.

On Friday, the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation finally approved Kazadi’s request to leave for Belgium where he will receive medical treatment.

Kazadi’s trial scheduled for Tuesday, 2nd July 2024 has since been adjourned to until further notice as he is unable to physically available for his defense.
