Opposition Ensemble Pour la Republique party leader Moise Katumbi has issued a statement calling for the immediate release of activist Gloria Sengha Panda who was abducted last week by state-sponsored thugs.
On Friday 17th May 2024, Gloria Sengha Panda as well as two other colleagues were vilified and bundled into a jeep in Kinsha’s Barumbu area from where they were taken to an unknown destination by ruling UDPS party thugs sponsored by DR Congo’s dictator Felix Tshisekedi.
Prior to her abduction, Gloria Sengha Panda had held a meeting ahead of planned peaceful march to demonstrate against the high cost of living as well as various atrocities committed in the Tshisekedi regime.
Meanwhile, Katumbi has since denounced the unjust arrest of the human rights activist which he describes as an act of cruel dictatorship by the Tshisekedi regime.
“The only crime of Gloria Sengha Panda Shala is to have prepared a peaceful march against the high cost of living and poverty. While no one can deny the distress and extreme poverty in which the Congolese people are plunged, his arrest on May 17 illustrates a poignant truth” Katumbi writes on X.
“The Congolese regime has transformed into a cruel dictatorship, incapable of surviving without systematically resorting to lies and false promises, undermine human rights, freedom of opinion, and resort to political violence.”
Katumbi has demanded for the release of Gloria Sengha Panda as well as every other political figure that has been imprisoned unjustly under the Tshisekedi government.
“I call for the immediate and unconditional release of Gloria Sengha Panda as well as all political prisoners, including Mike Mukebayi, unjustly imprisoned for over a year. I recommend that the authorities come out of their blindness and improve the social conditions of our population” he adds.
