SUMINWA LIED: Rwanda Denies Having Presented Plan to Withdraw its Troops From the DR Congo

The Rwandan government has refuted statements made by DR Congo’s Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka at the Rebranding Africa Forum in Brussels, Belgium.

Suminwa had earlier claimed that Rwanda had agreed to withdraw 4,000 of its troops stationed in the DR Congo.

Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe has denied the comments made by Suminwa on X (formerly Twitter).

Nduhungirehe has branded the information inaccurate and unfounded with an official response from the Congolese government expected to released in order to clarify this controversy which has already sparked debate.

Rwandan Foreign Minister further said that Rwanda has never “agreed to present a withdrawal plan” in Luanda or elsewhere.

This statement by the Rwandan government follows the announcement by the Congolese Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa, who stated on Friday, October 18, that Rwanda had committed to withdrawing its troops.

Kigali describes the accusation as “baseless” and specifies that this alleged “commitment” by Rwanda does not appear in the minutes of the 5th ministerial meeting held in Luanda on October 12, 2024.
