PANIC CHANGES: Tshisekedi Reshuffles Congo Army Command

DR Congo’s President Félix Tshisekedi is feeling the pressure from the ever-worsening security situation in the eastern region of the country and since ringed in changes to his army command.

Tshisekedi has been forced to make changes to his army command due to the recent rampant escalation of the M23 Rebels in North Kivu.

On Thursday, Tshisekedi appointed Lieutenant-General Jules Banza Mwilambwe to the post of Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC).

Lt. Gen. Banza has replaced General Christian Tshiwewe who has failed to lead the FARDC to containing the rebels escalation since his appointment in September, 2022.

Before his appointment, Lt. Gen. Banza served deputy head of the military at the household of the President of the Republic, in charge of operations.
