Opposition Lamuka Coalition deputy Christelle Vuanga has openly castigated Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba’s move to introduce the death sentence.
Vunaga who is the MP of Kinshasa 2 constituency has argued that it is unfair for Mutamba to reintroduce the death sentence and not allow for the accused to appeal their fates.
“The Minister of Justice has decided to execute several young alleged criminals, following summary trials, without even granting them the right to appeal, which nevertheless suspends execution. Even in developed countries, it is imperative to exhaust all avenues of appeal, such as appeal, cassation and even pardon, before irreversibly applying the death penalty. This penalty remains an illusory solution that will have no concrete effect,” Vuanga said.
Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba has personally imposed the death sentence on the Congolese Judiciary in a bid to reduce domestic violence in the capital Kinshasa.
