A meeting between DR Congo’s fourth and honorary president Joseph Kabila and US President-elect Donald Trump is reported to have taken place in the French capital Paris earlier this month.
According to a report by top Congolese journalist Steve Wembi, the former president would have met President Trump while he attended the celebrations for the renovation and reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
So far no details of the meeting which is said to have lasted for two hours in a very discreet location in the heart of the French capital have been disclosed.
Dan Gertler, an Israeli businessman and billionaire, is said to have facilitated Kabila’s exchange with President Trump due to his great standing in the network of Elon Musk, considered to be the US’ next “shadow” vice-president.
Several topics relating to business as well as politics are said to have been touched on during the two leaders’ meeting with Kabila.
Kabila’s reported meeting with President Trump has since been preceded by a series of discussions with Congo’s opposition heavyweights Moïse Katumbi and Martin Fayulu with regard to their stance against seating President Félix Tshisekedi’s plan to change the Constitution in order to remain in power forever.
