KINSHASA DROWNS: Capital City Flooded, Activities Paralyzed

Activities have been paralyzed in Kinshasa this Saturday, October 19 following heavy rains which have flooded the DR Congo capital city’s main arteries.

Residents of Kinshasa have been forced to stay in their home with the streets currently impassable for taxis, taxi-buses and motorcycles.

Blockages on the city’s gutters haven worsened the situation with rainwater invading a number of homes in the capital.

Schools, markets, shops, pharmacies and other businesses remained closed due to the floods that affected several neighborhoods, including the upscale commune of Gombe.

Concerns from the public have been voiced out criticizing the government’s failure to renovate the strategic city’s drainage system.
