HOPELESS TRIAL: Congo Military Court Open Judicial Proceedings Against Free-Roaming Corneille Nangaa & His Family Members

Democratic Republic of Congo’s Military Court have opened a trial against rampant rebel movement Alliance Fleuve du Congo (AFC) and M23 leader Corneille Nangaa whom the Congo armed forces have failed to capture and currently controls several territories in the eastern region.

The trial, a resemblance of a comic screenplay, was opened Wednesday at the Military Court of Kibnshasa/Gombe where the absent Nangaa and 24 other people were being illusionary prosecuted yet only five appeared before the court with the other 20 declared fugitives.

Among the accused persons in the trial opened by the Military Court are three of Nangaa’s close relatives including his half-brother Baseane Nangaa Putters who appeared at the first hearing on Wednesday.

Baseane was arrested last year in December after he was seen at concession belonging his family in the bay of Ngaliema.

Nangaa’s wife, Lubanda Nazinda Yvette, is also listed and is currently out having left the country in December 2023 and is in Europe.

Ntwali Lubala Fabrice, older brother to Nangaa’s wife, also living abroad after having left the country in December last year is another accused.

The main charges against Corneille Nangaa and his co-accused concern treason, participation in an insurrectional movement and war crimes, offences punishable by the death penalty.
