Fourth republican president Joseph Kabila and opposition heavyweight Moïse Katumbi have joined forces to defend the DR Congo against impostor president Félix Tshisekedi in his attempt to change the Constitution to remain in power forever.
Last week, the two political giants held a meeting in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where they held discussions regarding the proposed constitution amendment by Tshisekedi.
In a statement issued on Monday, Katumbi’s spokesman Olivier Kamitatu has stated that the two leaders have affirmed their stance against any attempt to change the Congolese law as it is illegal.
“They also firmly express their opposition to any constitutional reform which, in the current circumstances, proves to be illegal and inopportune and whose ultimate goal escapes no one: the consolidation of the dictatorship through a life presidency in the DRC,” Kamitatu said.
Kabila and Katumbi have further warned Tshisekedi that he cannot hold the DR Congo at ransom as power democratically exists with the people.
“While recalling that no one is the owner, but rather the tenant of power, the democratic lease being of fixed duration under the conditions provided for by the Constitution,” he said.
The two political heavyweights have since launched an appeal to all political and social forces which are involved in the fight against Tshisekedi’s dictatorship as well as for the well-being of the Congolese people to join their efforts with them.
