CRACK DOWN ON EMBEZZLEMENT: New Minister of Justice Launches Investigations into Suspected Embezzlement of Funds by Senators

New Justice Minister Constant Mutamba has called for institution of investigations into suspicions of embezzlement of public funds within the Congolese Senate.

On Wednesday, Mutamba informed the Senate during meeting at the Palais de la Nation of the decision to file cases before the law to establish a clear position on the suspected frauds as well as fight against financial crime within public institutions.

As you know, there were rumors about the embezzlement of funds by the outgoing Senate office. It was therefore a question for us of assuring and reassuring the provisional office of the terms of the judicial investigation that we have initiated so that the Congolese people are informed about the photo that has been circulating and where we saw former senators with bricks of money on the table” Mutumba said.

Nothing will be the same again and it is at the end of the investigations, which have been inquisitorial until now, that we will establish opinion on the urgent and coercive measures that will be taken.”

Close to US$3 million has recently been reported to have been embezzled by the previous senate who have denied the allegations through its former president Pascal Kinduelo.
