CORRUPTION EXPOSED: DR Congo’s National Transport Corporation Director Arrested for Attempting to Bribe Justice Minister

Democratic Republic of Congo’s Minister of Justice Constant Mutamba has ordered the arrest of Société Commerciale des Transports et des Ports (SCTP) Director General Pele Mongo Mboyo after the latter offered him a bribe to cover up his corruption.

Pele Mongo Mboyo is said to have dubiously benefited from a deal worth US$43 million which was diverted from SCTP, a national transport company, to his personal accounts.

At the same time, Pele Mongo is also said to have also requested from the company US$12 million to be paid out for a non-existent project which alarmed the anti-graft bodies.

In an attempt to close up the case, Pele Mongo offered Mutamba a bribe which was rejected by the Minister.

Pele Mongo has since been arrested and detained at Makala Central Prison awaiting trial.
