CHAOS: Ruling UDPS in Disarray As Party Leaders Scramble For Power Ahead of Elections

Incumbent President Fèlix Tshisekedi’s ruling Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) party has been hit with confusions amidst disagreements amongst party leaders with just four months remaining before the DR Congo goes to the polls.

On Wednesday, UDPS party Secretary General Augustin Kabuya announced the expulsion of four leaders in the party structures for violating party statutes.

Mukuna Kabongo Hubert, Lokuli Lokokaki Joseph, Minga Misha Jean-Lucien and Bomba Ngila Augustin were expelled from the UPDS after organizing a party congress to vote in a new party president to replace President Tshisekedi.

The quad have been cited for having held a congress in the name of the ruling party, to aimed at replacing Tshisekedi on July 11, 2023.

Meanwhile, Kabuya also revealed that the quad, led by Mukuna Kabongo Hubert on July, 26 had attempted to seize the Congolese Central Bank to freeze the party and Tshisekedi’s accounts.

Kabuya said that the party had resolved to expell Kabongo and his accomplices for abrogating Article 65 and 66 of the party Statutes as well as Article 12 of the Internal Regulations in the UDPS.
