The National Episcopal Conference of the Congo (CENCO) President Archbishop Fulgence Muteba has dared impostor president Félix Tshisekedi and the Congolese army (FARDC) in their attempts to enforce a ban on Christian programs in the country.
Earlier this month, Tshisekedi rudely directed General Eddy Kapend Yrung, Commander of the 22nd Military Region, to halt Archbishop Muteba’s procession at the celebration of the Mass of Christ the King in the parish of “St. Sebastian” in the military camp of Vangu.
Archbishop Muteba has since described the order by Tshisekedi as unlawful and warned the uprising dictator not to dare attempt to “chain the word of God.”
“The order given was unjust and an abuse of authority. As a vicar of Christ, I do not receive orders from a marshal or colonel,” Archbishop Muteba said yesterday in an interview on KTO channel.
The Archdiocese of Lubumbashi has further expressed its disappoinment over the ban imposed and stressed that the country’s constitution guarantees religious freedom.
Tshisekedi has recently accused catholic priests of practicing witchcraft against him and the government after they rejected his proposed change of Constitution to adopt a law that will allow him to remain in power forever.
