Inmates at Manono prison in Tanganyika Province have been deprived of food and medicine for the past over a month and three weeks by the Félix Tshisekedi government.
According to the interim director of the prison, the shortage of food and medicine has gone on for the past 51 days.
“There is a food shortage. The prisoners have had nothing for a month and three weeks. No food, no health care. Even basic medicines have run out. We have sent a letter to the provincial government to find a solution to this situation. But we have not yet received a favorable response,” said Célestin Yalala, interim director of the Manono prison.
Yalala further indicated that the detainees are have resorted to eating mangoes for survival due to lack of food.
