Their long-term ambitions for signing up to the UDPS alliance was to rise to supremacy after Félix Tshisekedi’s reign but it now appears that Vital Kamerhe, Jean-Pierre Bemba and Modeste Bahati Lukwebo’s decision has turned out to be an detrimental to their ambitions’.
National Assembly President Vital Kamerhe, Deputy Prime Minister of Transport Jean-Pierre Bemba and Senate President Modeste Bahati Lukwebo are compelled to vote for Tshisekedi’s bid to amend the constitution in order to extend his stay in power after 2028.
The trio who supported Tshisekedi’s candidacy in 2023 elections through the UDPS alliance, have so far remain silent on the topic for the change of constitution.
Tshisekedi has since issued an ultimatum to his allies as he exposes clear intent to hold on to power after 2028 barely 10 months after his inauguration.
For now, Kamerhe, Bemba and Bahati continue on with their hesitance and wait until the last minute to make a final decision on voting for or against the amendment of the constitution.
