Former DR Congo’s honorary President Joseph Kabila’s Common Front for Congo (FCC) party says impostor president Félix Tshisekedi’s dubious attempt to change the national constitution could spell the end to his reign.
Tshisekedi is attempting to have the Congolese constitution amended in order to run for a illegal third term as president in 2028.
The FCC have since warned Tshisekedi that his dubious attempt may prompt the Congolese population to rise and defend the country.
“As history has repeatedly demonstrated, aware and mobilized, the Congolese people have always been able to rise to the challenges. This was particularly the case in 1959, in 1992, in 1997 and in 1998. There is therefore no doubt that once again, he will stand up, united as one man, to defend his inalienable legitimate rights, a time despoiled, reconquered after a hard struggle, today threatened again: its freedom and its sovereignty,” a statement by the FCC party reads.
A number of opposition parties including the clergy as well the civil society have strongly opposed Tshisekedi’s bid to amend the constitution.
