DR Congo’s tribalistic Kasai president Félix Tshisekedi is about to spark a war against the deadly the Bembe tribe in the southern region of the country.
On Sunday, Tshisekedi sent a group Congo Armed Forces (FARDC) soldiers to raid the residence of retired Lieutenant General Sikatenda Shabani, a respected figure in the Bembe community.
The soldiers conducted an illegal search at Lt. Gen. Sikatenda’s property where number of personal items, including cell phones, were seized.
At least three guards and a domestic worker at the former FARDC officer’s residence were taken to a secret location.
Lt. Gen. Sikatenda is one of the most powerful and commanding figures in the Bembe tribe, a Kongo ethnic group from the south of the DR Congo, in the department of Bouenza.
Tshisekedi’s brutal attack on Lt. Gen. Sikatenda is said to be tribal and is likely to force a retaliation from the Bembes who are regarded to be one of the most murderous tribes in the DR Congo.
