After a successful year at both club and international level, DR Congo national team captain Chancel Mbemba has been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year Award for the year 2024.
Mbemba is on the final shortlist of 10 nominees released today by CAF ahead of the awards set to be held on 16th December, 2024.
The Olympique Marseille central defender has been nominated alongside notable African stars including Nigeria and Atalanta attacker Ademola Lookman, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi of PSG and Guinean striker Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
Mbemba is not the only member of the Leopards to be nominated as head coach Sebastien Desabre is in the running for the Men’s Coach of the Year accolade while Lionel Mpasi will also be vying for the Goalkeeper of the Year Award.
Former Leopards gaffer Florent Ibenge is also nominated in the Coach of the Year category following his fine exploits with Al Hilal of Sudan.
In the Men’s National Team of the Year category, the Leopards have also made the cut while Lubumbashi heavyweights TP Mazembe are nominated for the Club of the Year Award.
