National Assembly President Vital Kamerhe has instructed the suspension of the ongoing teachers’ strike throughout the country.
Teachers in the Democratic Republic of Congo have gone on strike demanding for government to pay their over five months of arrears and improved working conditions.
Government has so far failed to heed to the teachers’ demands thereby crippling operations in the country’s education sector.
On Saturday, Kamerhe consultions with the Congolese Teachers’ Union (SYNECO) but could not give the teachers any assurances but only promised the union that a budgetary allocation for the education sector would be put into consideration by parliament soon.
Kamerhe can also be encouraged to start reducing the National Assembly’s increased expenditures considering the huge gap between what a Member of Parliament earns compared to a teacher.
The Tshisekedi regime’s neglect of key sectors such as health and eduction continues to leave worrying effects on the DR Congo.
