MENDING FENCES: Koffi, Wazekwa Attempt To Bury The Hatchet

The shortest reconciliation in the history of Congolese music.

Indeed, the reconciliation between Koffi Olomidé and Felix Wazekwa was particularly brief and marked the history of Congolese music! These two great Congolese soukous and rumba figures had been in conflict for years, but they had surprised many by announcing their reconciliation in 2021.

Shortly after this reconciliation, tensions reappeared, making their attempt for peace very fleeting. Koffi Olomidé, nicknamed the “Great Mopao,” and Felix Wazekwa, known for his distinctive style and poetic texts, have often maintained an intense artistic rivalry. Unfortunately, despite their public declarations of peace, disagreements quickly returned, prompting a new wave of verbal disputes.

This brief moment of peace has remained in memories as an example of the sometimes strained relations between the great Congolese music stars.
