The combined qualifiers for the Africa Nations Championship (CAN) and the Wheelchair Basketball World Cup, in under-23 category, came to an end on Sunday with the DR Congo sealing qualification for the continental games.
Hosts DR Congo and the Central African Republic secured their tickets to the final phase of the CAN which is scheduled to be held in January 2025 in Libya.
The DR Congo qualified despite being defeat twice by the Central Africans at the Mutombo Dikembe Gymnasium in Kinshasa on Saturday (59-33) and Sunday (31-41).
The two consecutive defeats had no impact on the DR Congo’s qualification thanks to the withdrawals of Gabon and Chad, who were unable to travel to Kinshasa.
Furthermore, this competition took place in optimal conditions as indicated by Alain Makengo, advisor to Minister Didier Budimbu elite sports, during the presentation of the trophy to the winners.
He also praised the reception and accommodation conditions reserved for visiting countries.
