Fighting between the Congolese army (FARDC) and the M23 rebels resumed this Friday at Pinga-Peti axis, in Walikale territory of North Kivu Province.
Military sources have revealed that the army have reoccupied Peti community following violent clashes with the M23 which took at around midday.
However, locals in the larger part of Walikale territory say the security situation remains volatile with the M23 rebels who are still in the area and possibly preparing new attacks on the FARDC and their local supporting allies.
This Friday morning, some sporadic gunfire could still be heard in the area, sources have confirmed.
And in Nyiragongo territory, some local dignitaries reported that one civilian has been killed with three others left injured following clashes after been caught in the gunfire exchange between M23 and FARDC.
The civilians are said to have met their fate as they were collecting firewood in Virunga National Park at around 7am local time.
