At least 65 rebels from the M23 and RDF militia groups have been killed while 75 others left injured following bombing attack launched by the forces of the Southern African Development Community Mission in the DRC (SAMIRDC) from May 30 to 31 on the hills of Sake, North Kivu province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to a report released by the communications department of the SAMIRDC this Monday, amongst the rebels killed was a lieutenant-colonel of the RDF special forces.
This latest attack comes after the South African army announced the loss of one of its soldiers with 13 others injured during violent clashes with M23 terrorists last Thursday and Friday in the Sake region.
The SAMIRDC mission has been in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2023 and is led by South Africa and made up of soldiers from the Republics of Malawi, Tanzania.
Its mission is to militarily support the peace efforts of Congolese army who have been overpowered countless times by the M23.
