A local school, Nengapeta School, in Mugunga district of Goma, North Kivu Province has been bombed by suspected M23-RDF rebels leaving two seriously injured.
The incident happened on Saturday when the M23-RDF rebel group who dropped the bomb on the school from Kagano Hill as confrontations with the FARDC continue in the east.
The bombing left two, a man and his daughter, seriously injured and are currently receiving medical attention and no deaths were recorded.
Opposition leader Dr. Denis Mukwenge has since condemned these acts which he has described as serious violation of human rights.
Mukwenge has called for the prosecution of the perpetrators of the violence in the east.
“Bombing a school is a serious violation of the law of armed conflict and human rights, which must lead to a rapid response. We call on the authorities and MONUSCO to deploy all necessary means to protect civilians, to investigate the origin of the bombings and to pursue the perpetrators and their chains of command.
Our thoughts go to the victims and their families, as well as to the teachers present whose physical and psychological trauma must be taken care of as soon as possible,” Mukwenge wrote on X.
