WAR IN THE EAST: Four Civilians Killed in North Kivu Following Deadly Bomb Attack

At least four people have been killed and several others injured following bombing attack on Monday suspected to have been carried out by the M23 rebel fighters in Bweremana of the eastern DR Congo province of North Kivu.

This attacks come barely a week after a 14-day humanitarian truce was signed between the M23 and the Congo Army to halt the fighting in the region as proposed by the US government.

Local sources have revealed that the M23 are said to have carried out the bombing attack in retaliation to Congo Army who had sent its loacl supporting militia group, the Wazalendo, to attack the rebel’s settlement.

“We learned this morning that the M23 rebels have once again dropped bombs on the civilian population of Bweremana, in the Bahunde chiefdom in Masisi Territory, which reported 4 people dead on the spot and several others injured,” declared Ms. Prisca Kamala Luanda, senior advisor to the governor of North Kivu province.

She added: “Seeing the seriousness of the effects, the provincial governor dispatched an emergency team to the scene so that it could go and collect the bodies of the victims to take them to the morgue and bring back the injured so that they could receive appropriate care.”

Government has since dispatched an emergency medical services team to Bweremena where thousands are nursing serious injuries.
