Congolese players based in Sudan have safely arrived back home after being repatriated from the North-East African country where they witnessed intense fighting.
Glody Lilepo Makabi, Fabrice Ngoma Luamba, Steven Ebwela and coach Eugène Bulayima, all on the books of giants Al Hilal Omdurman, finally arrived safely in Kinshasa on Monday after connecting via Cairo, Egypt.
The football contingent were accompanied by the Congolese Ambassador to Egypt Jean Baptiste Kasongo Misenga while Sports Minister Claude-François Kabulo Mwana Kabulo received the athletes at at N’djili International Airport.
Upon arrival at the airport, Ambassador Kasongo Misenga applauded the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Ministry of Sports for their efforts in ensuring the footballers were safely repatriated.
Meanwhile, Congolese gaffer Florent Ibenge who serves as Al Hilal’s head coach, has also left Sudan safely and is currently in France.
Ibenge, who also holds a French passport, was part of the more than 388 French nationals and several others from European countries who were evacuated from Sudan on April 23rd to via Djibouti.
