VIOLENCE IN EASTERN DRC: Candidate In National Deputy Elections Shot Dead

Dogo Kalinda, a candidate bidding to be elected as National Deputy, was on Wednesday evening shot dead by unknown people in the city of Goma, North Kivu Province eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The incident happened just near a health facility in Ndosho community where Kalinda had gone to visit his sick child who had been admitted.

Kalinda is said to have shot multiple times by two by two unidentified armed men who fled the scene immediately.

“He was murdered not far from the Vuhe health center, by two armed men who were riding a motorcycle. After riddled him with several bullets, his executioners vanished into thin air. Investigations must be carried out by the appropriate services to shed light on this macabre act,” a resident of Ndosho said in an interview.

And the civil society in Goma have bemoaned the continued terrorist attacks and assassinations that have increased recently in the city.

The civil society calls on the security and investigate authorities to intervene and bring to justice the perpetrators of the acts of terror.

“Enough is enough. We have had enough of the assassinations which are not followed by investigations. Beyond Dogo Kalinda, beyond Munyamariba who was murdered, not long ago, there are other people who were kidnapped, until today, we do not know if they are still alive or dead.

We don’t know, in reality, who is behind these assassinations that are happening in the city. The Karisimbi municipal council urges the authorities to carry out investigations to find out who are the perpetrators of these assassinations,” said Claude Rugo, president of the Karisimbi municipal youth council.

Tension has been rising recently in the eastern region of the DRC with the territories of Nyiragongo, Rutshuru and Masisi most affected in a full week of clashes that have caused new displacements of populations.
