Opposition Ensemble pour la Republique leader Moise Katumbi yesterday visited Dilolo, a remote area in the Copper rich Lualaba Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo much to the joy of locals.
The former Katanga governor was embraced, celebrated and welcomed with cheers as multitudes gathered to listen to him speak.
A woman in the area who also attended Katumbi’s event said, “this is the next president, he is our own. Moise is not a foreigner, the world has accepted him to be our next leader.”
Another woman said the people of Lualaba and DRC in general have suffered and can barely afford a meal.
“We are living like goats,” she remarked on camera.
Katumbi bemoaned lacked of development including the stalling of a road project that connects Lubumbashi, Kolwezi and Dilolo.
The popular politician said although he was not in the area for campaigns but to regularize his party, he will follow through with the issues affecting the people on his campaign program.
Katumbi also paid homage to slained Ensemble spokesperson Cherubin Okende by calling for a minute of silence.
Okende was assassinated by President Felix Tshisekedi’s soldiers after being kidnapped on July 12, 2023 but results of an autopsy carried out then have not been made public.
Katumbi also paid tribute to about 60 people killed by the presidential elite guard in Goma after they staged protests.
He also paid homage to over 50 UNAFEC youths killed by government soldiers in Lubumbashi after they clashed with ruling party supporters over control of a bus station in Kilobelobe.
