A group of women have staged a protest in the capital Kinshasa to press for the release of opposition leader Moise Katumbi’s senior special advisor Salomon Kalonda Della.
Salomon is being held at Ndolo Military Prison where he was transferred after spending days at the military intelligence location DEMIAP.
The women are calling on President Felix Tshisekedi and his government to bring an end to political kidnappings one of which has resulted in the death of Ensemble pour la République spokesperson Chérubin Okende.
Observers have argued that Salomon is being held on trumped up charges.
He was brutally kidnapped at N’djili International Airport on May 30, 2023 as he attempted to board the plane to Lubumbashi in the company of Moise Katumbi who had been in the area to stage protests with other opposition leaders.
Salomon was transferred to the military prosecutor’s office on 10 June on false charges of allegedly colluding with Rwandan officials and M23 rebels.
The opposition and international community have denounced Salomon’s arrest stating that this was an operation by President Félix Tshisekedi.
After being held for 10 days at military intelligence headquarters, where he was questioned several times, opposition politician Salomon was transferred to the military prosecutor’s office on 10 June.
After the initial interrogation, he was incarcerated the same day at Kinshasa’s Ndolo prison.
However, no one apart from Tshisekedi and his inner circle believe Tshisekedi on the charges on Salomon.
The population has continued to demand his release.
