UNLAWFUL DETENTION: Former Justice Minister Imprisoned Without Charges

The family of former Democratic Republic of Congo Minister of Justice Bernard Takaishe have been left to wonder as to why he has been detained at the National Intelligence Agency (DEMIAP) headquarters since Tuesday.

Takaishe, the Deputy Minister of Justice in the government of former Prime Minister Ilunga Ilunkamba between 2019 and 2021, was on Tuesday summoned to appear before DEMIAP for unknown reasons and since then not returned home.

No official notice about Takaishe’s detention has so far been issued by either DEMIAP or any other Congolese law agencies.

According to his relatives, Takaishe still does not know reasons or what he is accused for is being held at DEMIAP even after 24 hours in detention.

Takaishe, a former member of the ruling UDPS party, has recently condemned the government’s barbaric attacks perpetrated against former President Joseph Kabila.
