UNFAIR DECISION: TP Mazembe Tossed Out of Congo Cup by FA

Democratic Republic of Congo champions TP Mazembe have been eliminated from this season’s Coupe du Congo or the Congo Cup by the country’s football federation, FECOFA, who ordered that the club plays its preliminary round fixture against FC Nouvelle Vie Bomoko of Kinshasa just one day after playing a league match.

Mazembe who faced CS Don Bosco in a Ligue 1 play-off match which they won 2-0 on Tuesday, had requested FECOFA to postpone their domestic cup encounter which the federation had scheduled to be played on Wednesday, bare hours after being involved in another clash.

The Lubumbashi giants complained that they could not manage to fulfil two fixtures in just a space of 24 hours and requested for the match to be moved to a convenient date before they were served with a notice of disqualification from the cup competition.

FECOFA have also ordered Mazembe to pay a fine of US$500 before May 20 for non-compliance with regulations on the postponement of matches.
