Clashes between the Congolese army (FARDC) and the M23 rebels continued on Thursday in the territory Kaseghe region, south of Lubero located in North Kivu Province.
The M23, who share control of the locality with the FARDC, are said to been attacked by the army in their positions last night.
After several hours of intense fighting, neither side managed to gain an advantage and control of the mineral rich territory.
The FARDC are trying to dislodge the M23 from Kaseghe, while as the rebels try to maintain their positions.
Control of Kaseghe is strategic for the fact that it also provides access to the rural commune of Kirumba which is also currently under rebel occupation as the situation remains tense with the fighting expected to continue.
