After three days of illegal and unconstitutional police, Reuters correspondent and international journalist Stanis Bujakera has been transferred to Kinshasa’s Gombe High Court this afternoon.
Bujakera, arrested on Saturday at the order of ruthless Republican President Fèlix Tshisekedi, has been kept in police custody for over the 48 hours without undergoing persecution as prescribed by the law.
“He was transferred to the prosecution after having been in police custody for almost 72 hours” Herve Diakiese, one of Bujakera’s lawyers said.
Bujakera has been accused of spreading and disseminating false information in an article published by the Jeune Afrique and included revelations that had implicated the state military intelligence in the assassination of former Transport Minister Cherubin Okende.
President Tshisekedi has since widely said to have ordered to arrest Bujakera despite him having no links to the publication of the article.
Bujakera has so far being interrogated twice for lengthy hours by the authorities commissioned to preside over Okende’s murder case.
